Palmetto State Park, May 2021
Man, this was a great trip. I'm just going to list the highlights.
- My Trak4 didn't tell me that I had left the storage lot. It did track my trip to Palmetto SP, but it did it through cell tower triangulation. I sent the company an email. They figured out that there was an issue with it. By the end of the day, a replacement was on the way. It was fully charged, added to my account, and I was able to track its journey. It was delivered about two hours after my trip, so I ran over to the storage lot and swapped it out. Wonderful customer service.
- I hiked a lot of trails and took some great photos. The best of them are on my It's Alive blog. You can see them here: https://itsalive.postach.io/ Here are some samples:
- The second afternoon, I drove over to the lake side of the park to hike the trails over there. The San Marcos River was flooded so you couldn't hike across like usual. I met a park host and mentioned that I had never seen a snake in the park. An hour later, I was hiking on the San Marcos River Trail and saw FOUR venomous Cottonmouths within 50 feet of each other. The rangers told me that it was probably related to mating behavior. Here's a pic:
4. The last night, I thought I heard about 6 quick gun shots. It sounded like they came from a handgun. I turned off my lights and peeked out the window, but didn't see anything. I put my car keys by my bed. I figured, if someone came to my trailer, I could set off my truck's alarm. I eventually fell asleep. Nobody else that I asked had heard anything.
All in all, it was a wonderful trip. I love it there.
Next up... South Llano State Park later this month.
