Kerrville Schreiner Park February 2021

----I am here at Kerrville Schreiner Park for a four-night camping trip. It’s almost hard to believe after nearly freezing to death last week with all that snow and the power going out for so much time. The trailer seems to have survived. Of course, I’m that nerdy guy who keeps it winterized. It should have survived. I'll know for sure on my next trip when I dewinterize and hook up the water.

----I’m in site 130. It isn’t my absolute favorite, but it is one of the ones I like more than the others. The only problem with it is it leans a little bit. Doesn’t really bother me much, and everything seems to work like the refrigerator and such. There aren’t very many people in the park, I don’t know why there weren’t other choices showing. There was a guy in 127 when I got here, so I couldn't get my current favorite.

----The winter storm reeked havoc on this park. The ashe juniper trees couldn’t take the weight of the ice and snow. As a result, all of the trails are closed. All day you can hear chainsaws going on and see trucks hauling out the brush. I’ve had to use alternate routes for my hiking adventures- mainly roads and the beautiful paved Kerrville River Trail.

----On two of the days I was here, I hiked the Kerrville River Trail. I got some great bird shots, including on of the best bird photos I’ve ever taken. I will post it down below. It was a good 7 mile hike in breezy sunshine the first time. I was wearing shorts and a T-shirt. That’s just crazy after last week. The second hike was closer to eight miles and it was significantly hotter. I actually got a sunburn.

----I decided to order Thai food on Tuesday from one of the two restaurants in town. I ordered online and got a pick up time for 3:47 PM. When I got there, the place wasn’t even open. I don’t know why it took my order. I called them the next day. The man who answered the phone didn't understand me and finally put a manager on. She was very apologetic and asked me what they could do to make it up to me. I told her that all I wanted was my meal, so we wet it up for 5:30 the next day. It was a fantastic meal, although I was really too tired to enjoy it thoroughly.

----Other than hiking and taking pictures of birds, I haven’t really been doing anything else. I brought my old fire stick with me to see if it would work with my unlimited personal WiFi hotspot. It worked great, but I just wasn't interested in watching much on the TV. I spent a lot of time processing my photos and a lot of time working on the game camera project I am doing for Government Canyon State Natural Area. All in all, it was a great trip. I was physically tired as all get out when I got home on Thursday, but I was also mentally refreshed.

----One major highlight of this trip was talking with one of my Central Texas RV Campers buddies a couple of times. Lynn Creek and his wife Sheila are park hosts at KSP. He was touring the around the park seeing what all crews were doing. We Sheila invited me for happy hour on Wednesday evening, but honestly, I was wiped out from that day's hike. I also had to pick up my Thai food in town, so I declined the invitation. I look forward to seeing them at the March camp out with a group of the CTRVC people.

----Oh yeah... Tell on my stupid self time. When I was hitching up to leave, I didn't let the receiver go down on the ball far enough. The latch shouldn't have closed, but it did. I caught my mistake as I was raising the landing gear. Had I left it like that, the trailer would have bounced off the hitch at the first big bump in the highway, I would freak out, there would probably be a major accident that would destroy the Colby 2.0, and I would be dead from injuries or a heart attack. The problem was that I couldn't get the latch opened to fix the situation. I tried everything. I thought about trying to contact Lynn Creek for help, but got it opened just before I did. I raised it up and re-set it the right way. Oh the joys of camping with an idiot in charge.
